However, when one member showed a U.S. passport, the officers’ attitude changed immediately—they became nervous and eventually allowed the entire convoy to proceed. While the CCP occupies a central role in Central Asia’s strategic landscape, to the Kyrgyz, China’s standing is far below that of the U.S.
