The man, surnamed Gao, was diagnosed with fibroma under his shoulder blade. His wife, surnamed Zhang, found him a “doctor” through a friend in central China’s Henan province.
The “doctor” told them that Gao was suffering from an “air bump” instead of a fibroma, a benign tumour, on his back, and he could cure it with several acupuncture sessions.
They carried out the first treatment at the lounge of a cybercafe owned by the friend, on February 22.
After several needles were inserted into his back, Gao could not breathe, and quickly became incontinent.

They rushed him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with respiratory failure and pneumothorax, an indicator that his lungs were punctured. He was taken to ICU in a critical condition, and was luckily saved.
