Chinese grandma goes viral for skateboarding, inspiring many with vibrant living

A grandmother from eastern China has shattered age stereotypes, becoming an internet sensation for her graceful and energetic skateboarding skills, earning the affectionate nickname “Chasing Wind Girl” from netizens nationwide.

Grandma Liu, 68, originally from Shandong province and now living in Chengdu, Sichuan province, discovered her passion for skateboarding in February 2022.

Accompanying her daughter, surnamed Dong, to select a skateboard, Liu was instantly captivated by the sport after trying it herself.

“I can’t sit still, and most of my friends are quite young. One day, my daughter’s friend suggested she pick out a skateboard. My daughter said, ‘Mum, let me show you something new,’ and I replied, ‘Sure!’”

“As soon as I saw it, I thought, this looks like so much fun! I tried it once and didn’t fall. Then my daughter encouraged me to learn,” she told China Youth Daily.
