China’s Tallest Building Can’t Rent Out, While Shanghai Shop Rents Drop From $10,000 to $100

The Shanghai Tower is a landmark building in the city located in the Lujiazui area. It is the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world, featuring the fastest elevators and being one of the top green buildings globally. However, since its completion in 2016, it has faced challenges with low occupancy rates. As of June 2025, the vacancy rate for the Shanghai Tower has not been disclosed in public data, but the overall vacancy rate for the Lujiazui area has surpassed 20%.
