China’s Jasmine Industry Collapses, Foreign Buyers Disappear, Farmers Dump Jasmine into Ditches

Starting May 12, in Guangxi’s Hengzhou and Yunnan’s Yuanjiang County, the market price for jasmine flowers has fallen sharply, hitting historic lows. Prices dropped from 14 yuan to 10 yuan, then 6 yuan, and recently even below 2 yuan per kilogram. Frustrated, some flower farmers have been seen scattering their jasmine flowers across the market in protest.
