On April 25th, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China released marriage registration data for the first quarter of 2025. the results were shocking: the total number of marriage registrations nationwide was only 1.81 million pairs, a decrease of 159,000 pairs compared to 1.97 million pairs registered in the same period last year, showing a significant decline in marriage registrations.
