On May 12, a soundless video suddenly went viral across the Chinese internet. Under the blazing sun, a group of Chinese construction workers stood outside a halted nickel smelting plant in Indonesia. This was not a documentary — it was footage from a real collective strike at the Indonesian Mitra Murni Perkasa (MMP) Rotary Kiln-Electric Furnace (RKEF) nickel smelting project, built by China National Chemical Engineering Sixth Construction. Since the end of 2024, these workers have not received a single paycheck, pushing their lives to the brink.
