Although China and Japan are geographically close, tensions between the two nations are rapidly escalating. On August 26, a Chinese reconnaissance plane entered Japanese airspace over the western part of Kagoshima. Just days later, on September 1, a Chinese naval survey vessel appeared in Japanese territorial waters southwest of Kagoshima. These provocative actions have outraged Japan, with some former Japanese officials claiming that if war breaks out, the Chinese navy could be wiped out in just 15 hours, and Beijing’s Zhongnanhai could be captured within a week.
