A Chinese tourist recovering from collarbone surgery has garnered praise for prioritising someone else’s safety over his own by descending a cliff to rescue a drowning Japanese woman at a tour site in Japan.

The 54-year-old man, identified as Yang, hails from Xian in Shaanxi province, northwestern China. He was travelling with his wife at Jogasaki Beach in Shizuoka Prefecture on September 16 when they heard someone fall into the sea.
Yang reported seeing a woman floating in the water face up at that moment. Without hesitation, he climbed down the cliff to save her, as reported by the Beijing News.
He noted that it was challenging to descend the cliffside due to its nearly vertical nature.
“My legs were trembling. Some people on a nearby bridge shouted to me, ‘don’t go down. It’s too dangerous.’ I was also frightened, but I thought, ‘This was also a life, and I must save her,’” Yang recalled.
