China tourist critically injured as she leans from train for photos, slams into tunnel wall

A Chinese tourist in Sri Lanka was critically injured after she hung her body out of a moving train for photos and slammed into a tunnel wall.

The woman’s actions have sparked a heated debate about travel safety on mainland social media.

The 35-year-old is reportedly in critical condition after she suffered severe head and leg injuries.

The incident happened on March 9 while she was travelling from Nanu Oya to Badulla. She was leaning out of the train for photos, when her head hit a tunnel wall, causing her to fall.

The unidentified woman was rushed to Haputale Regional Hospital, before being transferred to two other hospitals for treatment and special care.

On March 10, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka issued a notice on its website, reminding tourists to “stay away from train doors and do not lean out of train for photos.”
