Reports suggest the project involves a budget of about one trillion yuan.
One video shows countless bulldozers and excavators at work on the rugged, eroded landscape of the Loess Plateau. Machines rumble as steep slopes collapse, and yellow dust fills the air. Just watching the video, you can almost imagine the earthy smell of the loosened soil.
