The “7·20” refers to the extreme rainstorm that hit Henan from July 17 to 23, 2021, causing massive flooding across the province. Some reservoirs and rivers were urgently drained, which worsened the flooding. The disaster affected 150 counties and cities, with over 10 million people impacted. Farmland was submerged, roads washed away, and infrastructure collapsed, including power, communication, and transportation. Zhengzhou was the worst-hit city, with major flooding, subways flooded, and vehicles and people trapped, leading to significant casualties and property damage.
