1. Trump-Ishiba talks may ‘put the brakes on’ momentum between Beijing and Tokyo
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House last week provided reassurance for Tokyo about its alliance with Washington. But analysts say it did the opposite for Beijing, particularly over Tokyo’s recent efforts to mend fences with its neighbour.
2. China’s ‘iPhone City’ eerily quiet as Foxconn moves production amid trade war
The local Foxconn recruitment centre was almost deserted, with only two jobseekers arriving to attend interviews during the Post’s 30-minute visit. Local agents complained that Foxconn was cutting back on hiring in Zhengzhou and sending jobs overseas, making it harder for them to earn money.
