Well regarded Chinese supermarket chain Pangdonglai says it reserves the legal right to demand up to one-million-yuan (US$140,000) in compensation from an influencer who criticised a product it sold, despite giving the person a pay out.

The influencer with 50,000 followers on a major social media platform posted a video on February 4 complaining that the red underwear she bought at one of chain’s branches in central China’s Henan province was of inferior quality.
The person @lianggexiaoduan said the garment’s colour faded seriously when she washed it, and caused her to suffer from allergies.
She also criticised Pangdonglai’s staff for not being thoughtful enough while dealing with her complaints and accompanying her to the hospital.
The video immediately went viral because the Henan local supermarket brand was famous nationwide for its scrupulous service.

Pangdonglai immediately removed the product from shelves, and 10 days later, issued a 53-page report on the product.
