A woman in central China, who borrowed one million yuan (US$140,000) to treat her daughter-in-law, has captured the hearts of millions on social media through her unwavering dedication.
For the past five years, she has been providing round-the-clock care for her daughter-in-law, Yuanyuan, who fell into a vegetative state after being struck by a car on June 25, 2020.
Yuanyuan suffered severe injuries to her head, face, arms, and pelvis, along with multiple bone fractures. Following a craniotomy, she lapsed into a deep coma.

Fortunately, after four months, she regained a glimmer of consciousness, yet she remains in a condition akin to a vegetative state, unable to open her mouth, turn over, or dress herself. She also experiences incontinence, according to Henan TV.

Her mother-in-law, Liu Zhenyan, a resident of Xinxiang in Henan, never considered giving up on Yuanyuan. Instead, she has devoted herself to her care for the last five years.
During Yuanyuan’s first year in the hospital, Liu made a bed on the floor and slept beside her daughter-in-law’s bed each night. Liu’s exceptional care led other patients and their families to believe she was Yuanyuan’s mother rather than her mother-in-law.

Since Yuanyuan cannot eat on her own, Liu carefully opens her mouth to feed her, showing extraordinary patience. Additionally, she bathes Yuanyuan regularly, understanding her daughter-in-law’s love for cleanliness.
