Du Wen, a former official from within the Chinese Communist Party system, recently wrote that Beijing would never sacrifice political interests for the sake of the economy. He believes the government might even be willing to go to war with the US. In other words, Xi Jinping could take a huge risk and start a real war over Taiwan. But if that happens, the consequences could be devastating.
