On March 15, 2025, at 1:30 PM, a J-15 carrier-based aircraft of the Chinese Navy experienced a nearly vertical stall and plummeted toward the ground. The incident took place over the town of Jiali, located in the northwestern part of Hainan Island. The moment was captured by numerous eyewitnesses on their phones. The aircraft, officially touted as the “Flying Shark,” lost control during its landing. The dark-colored radar dome and the distinctive shape of the three-wing surfaces clearly indicated that this was one of the early models of the J-15. This incident not only exposed its technical flaws but also punctured the Chinese government’s boastful claims of having a “blue-water navy.”
