BNY Investments appoints head of Japan

BNY Investments, one of the world’s largest asset managers and part of recently rebranded BNY, has appointed Masaaki Sakakibara as head of Japan.

A spokesperson from BNY told FinanceAsia that Sakakibara (pictured) started the role at the beginning of this week on Monday, September 9 and is based in Tokyo.

Sakakibara has joined BNY Investments from Mercer Japan, where he was wealth business country leader and chief executive officer (CEO) of Mercer Investments (Japan).

Prior to that, he was head of sales, client service & marketing of Western Asset Management Japan. He also held sales positions at Goldman Sachs Asset Management earlier in his career.

Sakakibara will report to Doni Shamsuddin, chief executive officer, Asia Pacific at BNY Investments.

“Masaaki brings a wealth of experience managing multi-disciplinary business,” said Shamsuddin, “His track record of driving business growth will be vital to our long-term success in Japan.”

BNY Investments was formerly called BNY Mellon Investment Management, until the rebrand of the firm earlier this year.
