Beijing Builds Triple-Layer Steel Wall, Fearing Chinese People Might Topple Regime

This wall is not a prison. It’s not the Berlin Wall. It’s not a border wall. It’s the boundary wall between Beijing’s Daxing district and Langfang City in Hebei Province. The provincial boundary used to be theoretical, virtual, and easily crossed. Now, it is physical, real, and hard to cross. It’s made of strong wire and metal mesh. It perfectly separates Hebei from Beijing. Village roads and township roads are cut off, leaving only a few highways for Hebei residents to enter Beijing. Checkpoints are set up at these entrances, causing long queues every day. This could easily be seen as Beijing looking down on the people of Hebei as threats to the city.
