Before Trump Takes Office, Mexico and Canada Act, Blocking Chinese Goods via Fentanyl Crackdown

On November 25, president elect Donald Trump announced that due to the large influx of drugs like fentanyl into the U.S., he would impose a 10% tariff on goods from China once he takes office. He also planned to impose a 25% tariff on products from Canada and Mexico. Trump explained that these countries had not taken sufficient action to prevent drugs like fentanyl from entering the U.S. He emphasized that the U.S. had repeatedly discussed the issue with China, but the talks had been “ineffective.”
