Hong Kong authorities have warned hikers to be mindful of people taking part in a high-profile trail running race on Lantau Island over the weekend, as the route passes through a popular sightseeing spot.

The Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) on Friday warned hikers that large crowds were expected on Sunset Peak and other routes during the biggest trail race on Lantau.
“Participants will be passing through Sunset Peak, a popular spot for viewing silver grass, which is along section two of the Lantau Trail,” the department said in a post on its Hong Kong Country Parks social media account.
“Keep left, walk in a single file while hiking and be mindful of oncoming runners.”
It also reminded hikers to be considerate, keep the noise down and stay on the path to avoid trampling on the silver grass.

Participants in three of the four TransLantau races organised by UTMB, which take place over the weekend, will pass by section two of the trail.
