Bad Luck Strikes: China’s Foreign Relations Thugs Hit a Wall in New Zealand

The Five Eyes alliance is an intelligence-sharing group made up of five English-speaking countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
For a long time, New Zealand was seen as the weakest link when it came to resisting pressure from the Chinese Communist Party, and some even called it the frontline of democracy against CCP influence. But lately, things have changed. China’s so-called “wolf warrior” diplomats have run into real resistance in New Zealand.
According to local media, the Chinese embassy in Wellington tried to pressure Victoria University to cancel a forum called “Taiwan Update.” The university refused. On September 4, Taiwan’s representative to New Zealand, Joanne Ou Jiang-an, delivered her speech as planned. She called on the international community to support Taiwan’s participation in the United Nations and other global organizations.
