At 2025 Golden Globes The Brutalist, Emilia Perez and Shogun triumph, Demi Moore surprises

The Brutalist, the story of a Holocaust survivor who chases the American dream, and musical thriller Emilia Perez took home the first major movie honours of Hollywood’s awards season at the Golden Globes.

The Brutalist was named best movie drama and star Adrien Brody won best film actor.

The genre-shifting trans musical Emilia Perez won best film, comedy or musical, handing Jacques Audiard’s movie a major prize and elevating the Oscar chances of Netflix’s top Oscar contender.

Most of the TV winners were oft-awarded series, including the Emmys champion Shogun. It won four awards, including best drama series and acting wins for Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai and Tadanobu Asano.

Other repeat winners were: Hacks (best comedy series, best actress for Jean Smart), The Bear (Jeremy Allen White for best actor) and Baby Reindeer (best limited series and best supporting actress for Jessica Gunning).
