All Measures Fail, 150 Million Chinese Middle Class Fall Back Into Poverty! Xi’s Major Project Done

In 2020, during the National People’s Congress, then-Premier Li Keqiang disclosed that 600 million Chinese citizens earned only 1,000 yuan per month – a statement that sparked widespread discussion. Yet just months later, in early 2021, President Xi Jinping announced that China had achieved a complete victory in eradicating poverty, describing the outcome as a miracle.

More recently, the Chinese Communist Party’s official newspaper carried a front-page article stating that authorities will now focus on closely monitoring “unstable poverty-alleviation households” and “households at risk of returning to poverty” in order to prevent any large-scale relapse into poverty.

The question remains: what is the real situation regarding China’s poverty alleviation efforts, and what would a major return to poverty actually look like?
