An abused woman in China has been jailed for 11 years for killing her knife-wielding husband while fleeing him, igniting a widespread online debate.

The woman, surnamed Cao, from Hebei province in northern China, met her husband, surnamed Liu, in 2015 through a family introduction, Chinese Business View reported.
After dating for a few years, they married in 2017 and had a son.
Cao’s father said Liu’s temper worsened in 2021.
During one argument over Liu refusing to wash his feet, he slapped Cao, rupturing her eardrum and causing temporary hearing loss.

“He knelt and apologised afterward,” Cao’s father said, adding that Cao chose not to call the police to avoid disrupting their son’s life.
