Hong Kong’s Cross-Harbour Tunnel partially shut after falling concrete hits car

Hong Kong’s Cross-Harbour Tunnel was partially shut for more than an hour for emergency repairs after a piece of concrete fell from the ceiling and hit a car.

Police said on Tuesday that it received a call from a driver involved in the accident at 1.06pm.

The concrete slab which hit the driver’s car as it was travelling through the tunnel measured about 50cm by 50cm.

The Hong Kong Island-bound fast lane was subsequently closed for emergency repair works, leading to congestion. It was reopened to traffic at 2.48pm.

No injuries were reported, according to police.
