The force was alerted at about 4pm on Thursday when security personnel on patrol detected a foul odour coming from the flat at Butterfly Estate’s Tip Ying House, a spokesman said.

First responders broke into the flat, where they discovered the body of the 78-year-old man. He was certified dead at the scene.

Next to the deceased was his 44-year-old younger son, who appeared to be in a disturbed mental state but had no visible injuries.

The son, who had lived with the father, was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
