Hong Kong-listed SenseTime is set to spin off its healthcare platform to facilitate growth, capitalising on the rapid advancements in large language models (LLMs) that are transforming artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical field.

The company’s AI-enabled smart hospital solution covers diagnostic and treatment help, AI patient service, as well as AI medical and hospital group services, according to Professor Li Hongsheng, the chief scientist for medical foundation models at SenseTime Healthcare.
The solution integrates AI algorithms with advanced image post-processing technology, which is designed to support clinical departments and hospitals through diagnosis, treatment and recovery, Li said.
“The solution is like an AI-enabled medical journey for patients, beginning from the moment they make an appointment,” Li said. “For instance, patients can articulate their symptoms using the language model, which then directs them to the most appropriate department.”
After patients are discharged from hospitals, the LLM continues to provide care, according to Li. LLMs are the technology behind generative AI (GenAI) services like ChatGPT.

“While the AI generates automatic results, these will still be verified by human doctors, as we aim to enhance their efficiency throughout the process,” Li said.
SenseTime plans to spin off its healthcare platform as a new entity.
