China hits back at US curbs with multifront probes into American firms

China’s Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom) said on Thursday that PVH Group, the parent company of clothing brands Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, is involved with “inappropriate conducts” concerning Xinjiang matters, citing initial investigation results.

The ministry’s office overseeing the Unreliable Entity List mechanism – a blacklist similar to the US entity list – will hold a regulatory talk to the US firm in the short term, according to an online statement.

The results will be released to public, it added.

The Mofcom investigation began in late September.

Earlier this week, the US Department of Homeland Security announced a ban on imports from 37 Chinese companies over alleged human-rights abuses involving Xinjiang’s Uygurs.
