Hong Kong bus driver arrested after his vehicle hits man, who later dies

Hong Kong police have arrested a coach driver on suspicion of dangerous driving after his vehicle hit a 65-year-old pedestrian, who later died.

The force said on Tuesday that the vehicle knocked over the man at a bus stop on Kwong Wang Street in Tai Po at 5.50pm the previous day. The victim then collided with a 67-year-old woman.

“The man sustained chest injuries and was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital. He was certified dead at 7.35pm [on Monday],” a police spokesman said.

The woman was sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital with limb injuries.

The spokesman also said the two passers-by did not know each other, giving no further details about how the pair collided after the man was knocked over.

The driver, 66, was arrested for allegedly causing death by dangerous driving. He remained in police custody as of Tuesday morning.
