Hong Kong police have arrested 25 people, including a 70-year-old man, as the force ramps up efforts to combat illegal street racing and other traffic violations ahead of the Christmas holiday.

Among the arrestees aged between 24 and 70, four were involved in illegal street racing, three were suspected of driving with suspended licences, one was driving without a licence and another was engaged in dangerous driving.
“The force will step up enforcement during Christmas to combat illegal racing and illegal modification of vehicles, as well as other traffic violations, to ensure roads are clear of traffic, protect public safety and improve road users’ safety awareness,” the police said on Monday.
Kowloon West regional traffic unit said that during the crackdown over the weekend, the force also impounded 23 vehicles suspected of being illegally modified.
Initial investigations revealed that the cases included modifications to the suspension system, exhaust pipe, steering wheel, cracked windscreen and rear spoiler protruding from the body.
