Temperatures in Hong Kong on Sunday morning dropped to their lowest so far this winter at 16 degrees Celsius (60.8 Fahrenheit), with the local forecaster predicting the mercury will dip to 14 degrees at the end of the week.

The Observatory attributed the cool weather along the coast of Guangdong province to a “fresh to strong” northeast monsoon affecting the area.
“Locally, the minimum temperature recorded at the Observatory this morning was 16 degrees, the lowest so far this winter,” it said.
It also forecast that the weather would remain cool and become windier on Monday morning, before temperatures rose slightly on Wednesday to 20 to 24 degrees and later dropping again to 14 degrees on Sunday.
Hong Kong has been experiencing a warmer than normal run-up to winter. On October 19, the Observatory issued a late-year “very hot weather” warning, with the temperature rising to as high as 33.6 degrees and breaking the city’s previous record.

Meteorologists also attributed the unusual trend of typhoons approaching Hong Kong in November to the rising sea temperatures caused by global warming.
