Hong Kong teenager sent to hospital after boar bites his toe on beach camping trip

A Hong Kong teenager was taken to hospital on Saturday morning after having one of his toes bitten by a wild boar during a camping trip at a beach in the western New Territories.

The boy, 14, contacted police at 5.05am and told them the animal had charged him while he was staying at the Sai Wan Campsite along Tai Long Wan bay in Sai Kung district.

The teenager was conscious as he was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital. His four other friends who joined him on the camping trip were unharmed.

A police spokeswoman said officers had found no trace of the animal after the incident.

Police classified the case as a “sighting of wild boar” and “animal bite”.

The attack joins this year’s growing list. In October, a camper was attacked by a wild boar on the city’s tallest mountain, Tai Mo Shan, as she slept. The 29-year-old woman suffered a leg injury and was taken to Yan Chai Hospital.
