More than 260 people, including children and corporate executives, joined a football competition earlier this month to showcase community spirit and charitable commitment.

Co-organised by the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) and annual fundraising drive, Operation Santa Claus (OSC), and title-sponsored by Vita Green Charitable Foundation, the 5-A Side Football Tournament was held for the 26th consecutive year at the Happy Valley Recreation Ground on November 17.

The annual event is part of a month-long charity initiative led by the South China Morning Post and public broadcaster RTHK.

All proceeds collected from the junior and adult team enrolment are donated to OSC, which is raising funds for 11 local charities this year.

HKFC football section chairman Mark Grainger expressed his appreciation for the event, emphasising its role in fostering unity for a meaningful cause.

“There are many tournaments around. But the participation [in this tournament] is actually something more than just the game or win or lose. So, I think raising that awareness within the section and our own club members is important,” Grainger said.
