Government workers have been racing to fix a burst 1.2 metre diameter pipe at Cheung Tung Road near Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works since Sunday night, which gradually left residents without both drinking and flushing water after 10pm.
According to the Water Supplies Department’s website, the supply was originally expected to resume at 6am on Monday, before it was pushed back to 7am, 8am and eventually 10am.
At least 10 housing estates, both private and public, were affected along with North Lantau Hospital and hotels such as the upscale Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Hong Kong, Novotel Hong Kong Citygate and the Silveri Hong Kong-MGallery.
Water wagons and tanks have been sent to various housing estates, the hospital, Hei Tung Street, Pa Mei refuse collection point and the hotels.
