The Observatory clocked temperatures of up to 33.6 degrees until 12.30pm. The record was last broken seven years ago when the city logged a maximum temperature of 32.7 degrees on October 12.

The city typically cools down towards the end of the year, but a spate of high-heat days have been logged around this time of year since 2021.

Hong Kong in October of last year recorded three very hot days – where the daily maximum temperature hit 33 degrees or above – compared with two in 2022 and only one in 2021.

The forecaster on Saturday also reminded the public to take precautions against heatstroke.
