Hong Kong minibus driver allegedly 4 times over alcohol limit when vehicle hit woman, 74

Hong Kong police have arrested a minibus driver who was allegedly more than four times over the legal limit for alcohol when his vehicle hit an elderly woman in Kowloon.

The 54-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

The driver called police at around 1.23pm to report that his minibus had knocked down the woman on Hiu Kwong Street near the junction with Sau Ming Road in Sau Mau Ping.

A police spokesman said the victim, 74, suffered leg and head injuries and was unconscious when taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei.

He said the minibus was later towed to a vehicle examination pound in Kowloon Bay for inspection.

A source said the driver was arrested after a breathalyser test conducted on the spot showed more than 90 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, well above the legal limit of 22mcg/100ml.
