Authorities have launched a search in northwestern Hong Kong for a solo hiker who failed to return home after a trip on Sunday.

Yau Kwok-yee, 67, left his home in Tuen Mun at about 8am to go hiking in the district’s Por Lo Shan area with Ha Pak Nai as his destination in a 3km northbound walk on Castle Peak.
But he did not return by evening and could not be contacted. A GPS signal check indicated that at noon he was at Ng To Shui, situated at the upper stream of the well-known Ching Tai Stream.
His wife reported him missing at about 11pm and made a plea for information on social media.
Police, firefighters, the Civil Aid Service and the Government Flying Service launched a search with drones after midnight. The search continued on Monday.

Yau’s daughter told the media a team of hikers had encountered her father around 1pm at a rural spot called “Ching Chun Hung Kok” in the Castle Peak area of Tuen Mun.
