Back then, the Chinese government invested over 40 billion USD in the Beijing Olympics, setting a record for the highest investment in Olympic history. Every four years since then, Chinese nationalists have stirred up “Olympic fever,” proudly comparing other Olympic Games to their own, with a dominative air of national pride.
