Food for thought: the Post picks some of the tastiest treats on sale at major Hong Kong expo

The annual Hong Kong Food Expo at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai opened on Thursday and will run till August 19.

The Post took in the first day of the foodie’s paradise and here is a list of favourite food and drinks, from sweet to savoury, including city-produced and most popular.

Longest queues

  • Occasional flash sales of goodie bags filled with dried abalone, dried scallops, XO sauce and mushrooms, worth HK$546 (US$70), which went for HK$348 apiece, a discount of HK$198. On Kee Dry Seafood Co, Booth 1D-C10

  • The sale of colourful goodie bags shaped like a cup noodle (HK$120) or the brand’s mascot Demae Boya (HK$100) and filled with Nissin Foods products. Nissin Foods, Booth 1D-C02

Strongest smell

Most Hong Kong

  • City-made popcorn with unique flavours such as Hong Kong-style French toast, soy sauce and shrimp roe. Be Water Mart, Gourmet Zone Booth 3B-E08

  • Hong Kong-brewed Chinese herbal teas said to fix all sorts of ailments. Herbaceous Teas Company Limited, 3B-F06

Sweets

  • Bapman Fat Macarons add a twist to the traditional French pastry by supersizing them with extra fillings. They come in such flavours as strawberry, salted caramel, Oreo and cheese. Kim Hyun Company Limited, Booth 1A-C31

Savoury

Healthy choices
