China’s Economy Is So Poor, Half the Youth Fear Marrying: Only Remaining Single Ensures Survival

Against the backdrop of worsening political and economic conditions, the number of marriages in China has hit a record low, and the number of “empty nest youth” is rising.
In 2022, the probability of being unmarried among people aged 25-29 reached 51%. In other words, more than half of the young people of marriageable age were not married. In the same year, the number of single people in China reached 240 million. Based on these numbers, it’s predicted that by 2024, this number could exceed 300 million, which is roughly the population of the United States. The phenomenon of young people not getting married is very widespread.
