Fearing Tofu-Dreg Work, Bangladesh Chooses India Over China for a $1 Billion Project

On July 14, at a highly anticipated press conference, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had just returned from a visit to China, suddenly announced that the much-discussed Teesta River management project would be handed over to India. This left China in a difficult position, as it had already completed the feasibility study. After investing so much effort, China was publicly embarrassed when India took over the project.
