Hong Kong Book Fair gathers writers, scholars, celebrities and experts. Here is what to do, see and eat

The 34th Hong Kong Book Fair will take place from July 17 to 23 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai under the theme of Film and Television Literature.

Aside from books, this year’s fair will take place concurrently with the Sports and Leisure Expo and World of Snacks expo, with a combined 760 vendors.

Here, the Post gives you the highlights of what to see, do and eat.

Seminars

Various seminars will be held with a list of renowned writers, scholars, celebrities and experts. Prior registration is required for some.

  • July 17: film producer and director Ng See-yuen and writer Sun Sai-shing from 3.30pm to 5pm in meeting room S423-424

  • July 17: singer Remus Choy Yat Kit on personal development and spiritual growth form 11am to 11.45am in meeting room S428

  • July 17: contemporary dramatist and screenwriter Raymond To Kwok-Wai at 2.30pm to 4pm in meeting room S224-225

  • July 18: former secretary for the environment Wong Kam-sing and former director of the Hong Kong Observatory Lam Chiu-ying from 11am to 12.30pm in meeting room S224-225

  • July 19: economist and businessman Shan Weijian from 1.30pm to 3pm in meeting room S421

  • July 20: Chinese novelist Jin Yucheng, best known for Blossoms, and literary historian Xu Zidong from 11am to 12.30pm in hall 5G

  • July 20: Chinese writer Su Tong from 3pm to 4.30pm in hall 5G

  • July 21: Chinese writer Ban Yu from 11am to 12.30pm in theatre 1

  • July 21: Songwriter and screenwriter Norris Wong Yee-lam and literary critic Stephen Yiu-Wai Chu from 6pm to 7.30pm in meeting room S221

Exhibits

  • The Art Gallery features manuscripts and awards of acclaimed writers such as Joyce Chan Wan-Man and Raymond To Kwok-Wai. Props from the movies they inspired will also be displayed. The “Classic Adaptations” section highlights the interplay between text and visual media through the display of film and television adaptations of classic literary works, while “Spotlight Directors” showcases the creative visions of renowned directors who have brought literary works to the screen.

  • The “World of Art and Culture” uses different mediums to showcase art, film television and literature from Hong Kong and around the world. An interactive map and artificial intelligence installation and a miniature model of the Kowloon Walled City are being featured.

  • In the Sports Hub section, visitors can test their physical abilities on a mobile rope zip line course arranged by the Hong Kong Playground Association, or try the Ninja Obstacle Racing Experience

  • The Hong Kong Sports Institute are exhibiting won medals loaned from local athletes.

  • The Japan National Tourism Organisation and 18 Japanese prefectures and cities have teamed up to form a Japan pavilion promoting the country’s attractions and culture.

Food

  • “World of Snacks” offers more than 1,200 types of snacks and is divided into six areas, including Snack Bar, Party Time, Yummy & Healthy, Oldie Snacks, Travel Delight and Chocolate and Sweet Factory.

  • Nestlé will launch new ice cream flavours and offer special promotions. They include a buy-one-get-one-free offer on ice cream cups or scoops, redeemable with any purchase receipt from the Book Fair or the Sports and Leisure Expo.
