The Switch 2 got a $50 price hike earlier this year, bringing its starting price up to $499. Nintendo said in Thursday’s earnings report that Switch 2 sales have dropped 37.4 percent year-over-year.According to Reuters, Furukawa also gave an update on the RAM shortage, saying, “There has been no major change to the memory situation and Nintendo is in a position to secure sufficient quantities.”Earlier this week, one of Nintendo’s Switch 2 cartridge suppliers announced it plans to stop making ROM memory to focus on memory for data centers instead. Demand from AI data centers is driving the ongoing RAM shortages that’s leading to a wave of tech price increases. Microsoft has raised Xbox Series X / S prices multiple times now, increasing the Series S’s starting price from $299 to $499. The PS5 has also been hit with price hikes, taking its starting price up to $649.Follow topics and authors from this story to see more like this in your personalized homepage feed and to receive email updates.Stevie BonifieldThe Verge DailyA free daily digest of the news that matters most.Email (required)By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
