Hong Kong’s M+ forges new alliance with MoMA and Centre Pompidou to redefine museum loans

Hong Kong’s M+ museum, New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Centre Pompidou in Paris signed an agreement on October 30 to establish a three-way cultural alliance, aiming to redefine how visual culture is collected, exhibited and shared globally.

The framework agreement, signed at M+ in the West Kowloon Cultural District, departs from conventional short-term blockbuster touring exhibitions and fee-based satellite franchises. With no money changing hands, the institutions will focus on collaborative curatorial research, conservation and extended loans spanning many years across their respective networks.

Under the partnership, MoMA is planning to open a dedicated gallery in New York in 2027 to promote the M+ collection, while M+ will begin to integrate MoMA and Centre Pompidou works into its exhibitions over the next 18 months. M+ also plans to showcase its LED facade commissions at the Pompidou’s new collection and exhibition facility in Massy, south of Paris.
