From pandas to Peak vistas, Hong Kong sets out to captivate Apec delegates

Giant pandas, open-top bus rides, a Chinese cooking class, traditional opera, a harbour cruise, the Big Buddha, and The Peak are among the highlights of a packed social programme for VIPs attending this week’s meeting of Apec finance ministers in Hong Kong, the South China Morning Post has learned.

According to official itineraries obtained by the SCMP, about 500 delegates and guests from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum’s 21 member economies have been offered a range of activities from Monday evening to Wednesday.

In addition to the city’s landmarks and attractions, authorities will showcase Hong Kong’s technological strengths at its two existing innovation hubs: the Science Park in Pak Shek Kok and Cyberport in Pok Fu Lam.

“The VIPs will be able to experience the natural beauty of the city via the Ngong Ping 360 cable car, take in the skyline from The Peak, and see the giant pandas – our national treasures – along with cultural heritage sites,” an insider said. “They will be fully immersed in Hong Kong’s soft power.”
