Hong Kong police have arrested a man and a woman after he allegedly stole a gold necklace worth nearly HK$80,000 (US$10,193) from a Chow Sang Sang jewellery store in Tai Po.
The man was tracked down in the same district on Thursday afternoon, but only half of the necklace has been recovered.
The unemployed 37-year-old entered the store on Kwong Fuk Road at about 3.10pm on Wednesday. Believed to be financially strapped, he carried out the theft without attempting to cover his face.
After asking to try on a 60-gram gold necklace he allegedly snatched it, fled towards Kwong Fuk Lane and boarded an airport-bound bus, only to disembark shortly afterwards.
