The situation in Putian was even more severe. Two major reservoirs, Dongzhen Reservoir and Jinzhong Reservoir, opened their floodgates to release water. Among the ten largest reservoirs in Putian, six are located in Xianyou County. Flood releases from multiple reservoirs and hydropower stations caused water levels in Mulan Creek, known as the “mother river” of Putian, and its tributaries to rise sharply. Videos circulating online showed that a section of the Mulan Creek embankment in Huating collapsed, with floodwaters destroying homes and the historic Jinfeng Ancient Bridge.
