An elderly man has died after collapsing while hiking on a scenic yet notoriously challenging hill in southern Hong Kong.
Police received a report at 9.13am on Sunday from a passer-by regarding the 72-year-old man surnamed Kwok, who collapsed at Yuk Kwai Shan on Ap Lei Chau.
A Government Flying Service helicopter airlifted Kwok, who was unconscious and had sustained scratches to his head and feet, to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan.
He was later pronounced dead, with the exact cause of death awaiting an autopsy.
Yuk Kwai Shan, also known as Mount Johnston, is a scenic spot popular for its sea views but is considered a dangerous destination because of its steep terrain, lack of established trails and limited shade.
Police have previously cautioned residents against hiking in the area.
