On the morning of August 28, a drone conducting disaster assessments in the Gyirong Port area in Shigatse, Tibet, captured footage showing another massive avalanche near the snow-covered mountains that had already been devastated by the flash floods. Preliminary measurements showed that about 65,400 cubic yards of ice debris had fallen into the already unstable landslide-dammed lake upstream of the port. According to Chinese state media CCTV, the frontline command center issued an emergency notice ordering all rescue teams to stop advancing toward Gyirong Port. The upstream area had experienced an overflow from the landslide-dammed lake, creating the possibility of another debris flow at any time.
